A bicentennial map depicts LeDroit Park in 1975
DDOT posted this map of DC published in 1975 to celebrate the bicentennial. The map includes a section on LeDroit Park. Notice the groovy font, the “new” Howard University Hospital, the “nice old houses”, the long-gone bakery, and the “newly reopened Howard Theatre.” The Howard Theatre had briefly reopened from 1975 to 1980.

just “Old Houses” versus “Nice Old Houses”
making a judgement call, were you, mr. cartographer? ;)
Note that the “Nice Old Houses” appear to be on First Street in Bloomingdale.
You’re right, Betsy. I should’ve paid closer attention!
Maybe Mr. Cartographer was a Bloomingdale resident.
Eric – is there a list of when old houses in LDP were razed?
Betsy,
I have not found such a list, though that would be an interesting project. I guess I could look through old Baist atlases.
