The Park at LeDroit

At Tuesday’s Civic Association meeting, residents voted on naming recommendations for the park being built on the site of the former Gage-Eckington School.  Only the DC Council has the authority to name parks, but we have it on good authority that the Council will strongly consider the Association’s recommendation.  The following three names received the most votes and will be recommended to the Council:

  1. The Park at LeDroit
  2. Gage-Eckington Park
  3. Unity Park

The park is set to be complete early next year.

  1. Not sure what the rules are on naming parks, but there is already a Unity Park in Ward One. It’s the triangle park at Columbia, Euclid and Champlain.

  2. please let it be Gage Eckington Park.

“the park at ledroit” just seems like we’re giving up. like calling your dog, “dog”. or the bottom at foggy.

  5. The Park at LeDroit sounds like a high end condo building like The Flats at Gage. Unity Park is so hoky it makes me sick to my stomach. I’d stick with Gage Eckington Park because it is already the defacto name and gives a nod to all the kids that went to the school and teachers that taught there.
